Water Supply Level I

The course meets the requirements of NFPA® 1001 for Firefighter I.

Program description:

After completing this lesson, the student shall be able to:

  • Make hydrant connections and draft from a static water source.
  • Describe dry-barrel and wet-barrel hydrants.
  • Discuss fire hydrant marking and location
  • Summarize potential problems to look for when inspecting fire hydrants.
  • Explain the process of fire hydrant testing.
  • Discuss alternative water supplies.
  • Discuss rural water supply operations.

Hands On 2 hours

  • Operate a hydrant.
  • Make soft-sleeve and hard-suction hydrant connections.  
  • Connect and place a hard-suction hose for drafting from a static water source.
  • Deploy a portable water tank.

Program description:

After completing this lesson, the student shall be able to :

  • Choose the correct water supply for various scenarios and be able to move water through a system correctly.
  • List sources of water supply.
  • Describe the three methods of moving water in a system.
  • Discuss water treatment facilities.
  • Explain the operation of water storage and distribution systems.
  • Distinguish among the pressure measurements relevant to water supply.

Hands On 1 Hour

  • Use a pitot tube.
